The leaves are Turning and It’s Time to Think About Your Immune System

So winter is coming soon, or you’re like everyone else these days and your life is a thousand times more hectic than it should be. Either way, it’s the perfect time to give your immune system a boost. Why? well obviously the cold will begin with the runny nose…and you don’t want it building into more; but also, stress is one of the most commonly overlooked causes of illness.

“…chronic stress has a significant effect on the immune system that ultimately manifest an illness. It raises catecholamine and suppressor T cells levels, which suppress the immune system. This suppression, in turn raises the risk of viral infection.¹” said Professor Razali Salleh.

What many of us don’t realize is that getting your immune system into working order doesn’t take that much energy. It’s actually pretty easy. Here are 4 expert tips to supercharging sickness defenses:

1. Rest. Rest. Rest

You’ve heard it dozens of times and you’re going to hear it once more. Sleep deprivation can make you feel slow longer than it takes to get a good night’s sleep. That’s reason enough to give yourself eight hours a night to sleep!

2. Natural Vitamin C

Don’t use those packets of tasty drink solution which promise a strong immune system…You can guess that they’re filled with low-quality, unproven ingredients that just get a dollar out of your pocket.

Peppers, citrus fruits, berries and broccoli are essential this time of year to making sure your vitamin c levels are healthy.

3. Take Care of Your Gut

You’re probably familiar with the important role your gut plays on your immune system. Taking a  daily probiotic is a great way to ensure that your micro biome healthy and bacteria levels are even.

4. More Greens!

In the summer it’s easy to get your daily dosage, but when it’s colder you have to be more creative. Try an ice cold smoothie with spinach and ginger to change things up or throw some in your soup on a cold day.
